This site was developed by Angelo Marques as a capstone project in the spring
of 2005 with the intent to help students save money on books. It allows
both for Faculty to post assigned books for upcoming semesters and
for students to buy and sell books from other students. This website
serves only to connect buyers with sellers; the actual transaction
is handled solely by the students and it is outside of the control
of this site.
This site is provided as a free service for CSUMB students only. To
use any of the services here you must create an account and only valid
CSUMB email addresses are allowed accounts. In addition, email addresses
used to create accounts have to be verified once a year. Unverified
emails will result in account deletions, this will insure that only
CSUMB students can use these services.
To create an account click the "signup"
button on the top navigation bar. Please fill in all the required
information. For the email address field only CSUMB email accounts
are allowed.
Faculty: Please make sure to select the appropriate
radio button to create a faculty account. If you create a student
account by mistake you must remove and recreate your account.
Student: If you provide a phone number here every
time you purchase a book in this site your phone number is sent
to the seller in addition to your email address.
To conclude the account creation process you must validate your
email address. After filling in the signup form an email will
be sent to your inbox with a validation code. Please follow the
instructions in this email to validate your account.
Faculty accounts go through an additional validation
process. If you attempt to signup as faculty the system will query
the CSUMB book list in search of your email. If this fails and
you are a faculty member you can request another faculty member
to validate your email as a faculty email. The ideal person to
validate your account is a faculty member that already has an
account with bookXchange. If you don't know a faculty member with
an account here you may want to try a persuade one to create an
account and then validate you as faculty. CSUMB book list may
not be updated often enough and the best candidate for this task
is a faculty member that has been working at CSUMB for some time.
Once you have successfully created an account, you can login to
your control panel by using the "login"
button. If you forgot your password simply use the send password
portion of the login page to retrieve it. Once logged-in your

Faculty accounts must have their email validated
as belonging to a faculty member. As a backup method for accounts
that are not yet in the CSUMB public book list, faculty account
holders can validate email addresses as faculty emails. To do
this go to your control panel,
type in the email address you want to validate and click the 'validate'
button.
Note: This will allow the owner of the validated
email address to create a faculty account and benefit from all
the privileges and power that come with this account type, please
use responsibly.
Using the search box in the top navigation bar you can search
for books using keywords. The search system will look for any

You can browse books for sale using the dropdown menu in the side

You can browse books assigned to upcoming classes using the 'Assigned
books' dropdown menu in the side navigation bar. The menu is organized
into departments and it only shows departments which books have
been assigned for. The books listed here are posted by faculty
for the classes they are teaching. CSUMB bookXchange is not responsible
for the authenticity of the content posted here. There are measures
put in place that try to ensure that only faculty can assign books.
However the system is not full proof and there is a chance the
information may not be accurate.
CSUMB does not conduct sale transactions. To purchase a book,
search or browse
for the book you are interested in. After finding the book you
want add it to the shopping cart. You may add as many books as
you want. When you are ready to checkout, simply click the checkout
button in the 'cart' page.
You must be logged in to checkout,
if you are not logged in at checkout you will be prompted to do
so. You can login at any point of the shopping session.
When you checkout your contact information is sent to the sellers
of the books you have in the shopping cart. It is then up to the
sellers to contact you and arrange for the actual transaction.
The bookXchange service ends after sending the purchase requests,
it is not responsible for what happens after that.
The ISBN is a unique machine-readable identification number assigned
to books. This number is found in most books and it is standard
part number of a book. The ISBN can be usually found
in the book's back cover next to the bar code and in the first
few pages of the book next to the publishers information.
Look for a similar label in the
book's back cover.
